FAQ
What type of professionals are the key focus of the meetings?
Corporate Finance and M&A Lawyers, Investment Bankers, M&A Advisors, and CPA firm Transaction Advisory Service.
What other types of professionals may want to attend?
Professionals in private equity, business brokerage, wealth management, commercial insurance, alternative finance, commercial banking, family office, interim professional services, CPA audit advisory, IT consulting, executive search, environmental M&A consulting, business valuation, CPA tax advisory, estate planning law, and other areas. They are not the primary focus of the deal conversations, yet, can still benefit from membership.
What are some unique features of the meetings?
Members and sponsors are not given time in the meetings to provide their “elevator pitch.” This saves us a lot of time during the meeting and allows us to discuss dozens of deals in a two hour meeting. We also limit discussions of deals to only M&A, equity or debt finance deals between 10 and 99 million $USD. This allows people to know what to expect and get what they expect in every meeting. We have not heard of another group or event that has this recurring format to all of its meetings.
What is the format / agenda?
This is a professionally moderated group discussion. We follow a past, present, and future model. First, we discuss closed deals briefly. If members can, they mention how other members were helpful in a past closed deal. Second, most of the meeting focuses on discussions of current deals. Members can share how they are working with other members on current deals and are encouraged to discuss requests they have from other members for advice and connections. Third and finally, we wrap up discussing future trends and opportunities. That can include prognostications about the economy, deal terms falling in or out of favor, or trends around interest rates, private equity and independent sponsor activity levels, and more.
How can attendees contribute to the meeting?
Members and guests are encouraged to list carefully to each person speaking and monitor that Zoom chat panel as well. They can ask clarifying questions, provide advice for those facing challenges on their deals, invite people to other events and groups, request introductions, and suggest introductions, especially when those introductions can help a member to close a current deal.
What is included in the membership?
Members can attend monthly meetings, receive follow up emails from each meeting that include spreadsheets with all the members and guests contact details, have access to the private members only Linkedin group, and have category exclusivity in their region. e.g. a corporate finance and M&A attorney in Oregon will be the only corporate finance and M&A attorney from their “region,” which is the whole state. Larger states like TX and CA are divided into three regions.
What is included in the sponsorship price?
Sponsors are exclusive to one per category for the entire group. For example, there would be only one sponsor firm that does Investment Banking. The sponsor firms’ images and details are featured in the promotional materials for the events in PDF attachments sent in the monthly email to members and guests, on the website, and in the private members only Linkedin group.
What is included in the PDF document that is attached to the follow up emails sent to members and guests?
The sponsors each have a half page profile which includes a brief description of their work, a head shot of the member, the company logo, contact details such as phone number, category, company name, title, location, and email address, and hyperlinks to their website and linkedin profile. The members get 1/8 of a page with similar information, excluding a description of their work.
What can I learn during these meetings?
How others are structuring transactions, latest trends and developments in legal issues, changes in loan terms, market updates, changes in multiples, new financing products, hybrid securities, the Rep & Warranty Insurance marketplace, tax structures, software and tools, and estate planning issues.
What can members and guests do in between each meeting?
We encourage people to reach out, one at a time, to other members and guests to schedule meetings, learn more about each other, discuss more past and current deals, find ways to provide ideas and introductions for each other, and find new guests who they trust to attend the next meeting.
What is the policy on guests attending?
Any guest can attend from any category in any region. Category exclusivity per region for members does not preclude guests in that category and region from attending. Guests may only attend two meetings and are then asked to either join if their category and region is open or refrain from attending a third time.
How can I pay for my membership or sponsorship?
There are two separate Paypal subscription links on the website for membership and sponsorship. Membership is $60 per month and sponsorship is an additional $200 per month, starting on the day they are paid. There are no refunds. Commitments are only month by month and can be stopped at any time by the members or sponsor through Paypal.
What is the purpose of the private, members only, Linkedin group?
Members can communicate with each other and post content in the group for other members to see. We encourage people to post about their firms and the eight figure deals they have closed or are working on. They can use Linkedin as a tool for requesting or making introductions. The F8 group itself also posts images, written content, and videos about the group, our meetings, the members and our sponsors.
